Spelling Practice with DIY Letter Puppets

Spelling Do Letter of the alphabet Puppets
Making the letter puppets is the get-go part of the adventure. I enlisted the help of my 7 year sometime who was excited to participate once he saw paint and googly optics were involved.
How to Make Letter of the alphabet Puppets
We started with a package of Plaid 4″ Letter of the alphabet Stencils. These sturdy cardboard stencils were the perfect body for our puppets. Nosotros punched the messages out of the stencils and so started to paint.
I started with the vowels and had Rhett paint all of them Apple Barrel paint Puddle Blue and the other letters we varied the colors between Apple tree Barrel Petunia Majestic, Banana, Candy Pink, and Lime Tree.
We painted both sides and put several coats on the front end for full coverage. Because the messages were cutting out and we were working on cardboard, this was Non a hard painting project. Information technology is something you can do together with your kid.
Once the paint had dried, nosotros added a topcoat of Plaid Mod Podge Washout for Kids. It seemed to me to be very like to the regular Modern Podge product, but the clean up was easier.
Rhett rolled the Washout for Kids onto the painted letters with one of my favorite tools, the Modernistic Podge Roller Applicator. It makes this process faster and less messy.
While the summit coat was nonetheless wet, we added paper streamers to the messages for ornamentation in colors that coordinated with our fancy letter puppet color scheme.
Once everything had stale, we added googly eyes to the front and craft sticks to the back for puppeteer accessibility.
Beyond Spelling Exercise
Rhett started with merely having fun putting words together for his puppet testify. We constitute that if he had a word longer than 4 letters it was difficult for him to concord them during the operation. We added a strip of hook and loop tape {both sides} across the top and he could set the craft stick ends into it and information technology would stay allowing his hands to be free for more letters.
We worked on his spelling words and sight words and and so spelling his sight words.
What I loved most about this project was working on it with him. The bonus was that he is excited to put on a puppet prove for me and hardly even notices that we are studying!

Since this project, we have used information technology several more times. In fact, when Rhett wanted to work on a projection by himself, that was what I grabbed to paw him knowing that we could easily wash it out of his clothes and clean upward the piece of work surface area without problem.
