How To Use the New MAC Prep + Prime CC Colour Correct Line: Tips From MAC Senior Artist Victor Cembellin - Makeup and Beauty Blog
GUUUURL, don't even get me started most brighting products 'cause nosotros'll be here for days.
DAYS, I tell ya. Perchance even years.
I'm actually never not looking for something — anything — to requite me an extra brightening elevator. Information technology's i of my ongoing personal makeup missions. 🙂
When MAC'south new Prep + Prime CC Colour Correct line came out last calendar week, I was intrigued! — merely admittedly confused.
I wasn't sure where to commencement… I mean, lavender powder? Yellow face balm?
What gives? And what are they for?
I asked MAC Senior Artist Victor Cembellin, who I've known for a few years, about the new products, what they do, and the best ways to employ 'em.
Howdy, Victor! What can y'all tell me near these new Prep + Prime CC Colour Correct products? Should I exist intrigued?
OK, and then, essentially, what's kind of awesome about these is that products like this have been on the market for many years, simply what I like is that we've sort of re-worked them into something entirely new.
Obviously, these are for adjusting pare tones. The CC is for "color correct," but what's exciting about them is that whereas in the past, there was this sort of mentality from the consumer of, like, if I grab this greenish cream and put it on top my red cheeks, everything'due south going to be gone and Photoshopped and all that.
I think what's heady almost these particular products is how delicately we used the applied science to our advantage to brand them really workable, user friendly, and into something that really does what it claims to exercise, which is to color right the actual tones and the idiosyncrasies of the pare.
OK, how would an everyday guy or gal incorporate these into their makeup routine? I'yard looking at some of these colors, similar the violet and the yellow, and thinking, "These look really, really cool…" only I accept no clue what to do with them.
Then, starting time of all, they're very sheer, and whereas in the past — perhaps with things other companies accept washed with them, well… If yous've ever taken, for example, a lite pink blush and put information technology on top of oily skin, information technology turns six shades darker, and that'south what was happening with color correctors. They had too much pigment in them, so they were actually turning the pare weird colors, as opposed to correcting.
I think what'southward nice about [the new MAC color correctors], and how a normal person would comprise them into their makeup routine, is that they'd exist used with the sort of approach similar y'all're erasing the tones off the peel.
So, if y'all're using the CC cream itself, or if y'all're setting with the loose powder or compact powder, it's the idea that considering they are then sheer and delicate, information technology almost takes the guesswork out of the product for you.
You're going to use the powders on acme of your foundation, or if you're going to utilise the CC creams, yous can outset before you really apply your foundation.
But information technology'southward really just a matter of using them, and sort of erasing abroad, every bit opposed to the mentality of covering up, what yous see. Almost like Photoshop. You lot just desire to do a little bit then things kind of disappear — not completely embrace things and then they look weird or heavy, or and so neutral that they expect kind of odd.
What would I apply Accommodate for, the peachy beige?
I'd compare it to this: accept you lot ever been to a department shop with bad lighting in the dressing room? You're looking at your skin, and you lot're similar, "I just feel so deadening! I don't await lively, and my skin looks gross!"
I experience like the Adjust really just brightens up skin tones. And then imagine your medium skin tone — and I want to say that you're probably, like, an NC42 in MAC nomenclature? (ME: Yes!) — so for you, what information technology's going to exercise is brighten up the skin without making it look like you've done some weird Kim Kardashian sort of highlighting and contouring event. It just sort of naturally lifts the skin to where you're like, "Wow, I wait brighter!"
It brightens areas, peradventure in the back of your skin, where, um, people who accept a deeper skin tone around their forehead line, around their mouth, and around, like, the back of their cheekbones. And so it kind of adjusts those shades and brightens them upwardly.
OK, walk me through the other three — xanthous Neutralize, lavender Illuminate and apricot Recharge. What practise they do?
To jump straight to Recharge, it would be well-nigh the exact aforementioned thing we just described with Adjust, but for deeper peel tones.
And then, perhaps we've got, y'all know, an African-American woman, or someone who's a NC 50 or NW 50 peel tone — it would exist the same thing — brightening up those tones then they nearly reverse them, like, the dullness of the skin, or what some people call the grayer tones, or the ashy type tones. And so that's going to counter those tones.
As far as the lavender, that would be for someone similar myself for instance.
I accept gold pare, and I'chiliad desperate to look like I take pinkish skin. I'grand ever using cherry bronzers and ruddy type blushes to make me look similar I'one thousand sunburned, because when I await at my skin, I feel like I look sort of like gold and yellow and just dull. And so the lavender one, the Illuminate, is actually going to counteract that and but bring that brightness, and really illuminate the pare. Just reversing some of those tones that might make someone feel actually wearisome.
And so the last one would exist Neutralize, which is yellow.
And that would exist perfect for someone who has pinkish nuances in their skin. Myself, having worked with women for eighteen years, women come up and they're always similar, "I hate that my peel's uneven and pink." So Neutralize would exist something that you could literally just erase out those pink tones from the skin.
What are your must-haves from the collection then — the things yous're admittedly loving?
I would say, for sure, the CC creams.
What's interesting for me as a makeup creative person, and what I've been really trying to tell my clients and just every consumer I interact with, is the idea now of letting the skin exist revealed from underneath.
When we're approaching things, nosotros're really just erasing versus roofing. With the CC creams, 2 great colors would exist the Neutralize and the Adjust. I tend to grab those a lot. And literally but kind of similar push, pull and using brushes, or patently using fingers, but just really acting similar I'yard skimming or erasing off the tones, before I approach [the skin] with foundation.
And what's nice is that the CC cream has priming properties to information technology, so it actually virtually kind of self-sets and locks down to the pare, then when you put foundation on acme, it's not interrupted by the fact that you lot're putting makeup on top of it.
And I love loose powder. I know that some people, when you really talk to the average consumer, they're similar, "It'southward messy on my countertop," and this and that. But there is that sort of je ne sais quoi — that lite powdery-ness of loose pulverization — that looks velvety and almost soft-focused.
And then I find myself really gravitating toward those 2 products, just I think, of course, for somebody on the become or someone traveling, manifestly the compacts are the best choice.
One more question for yous! With the powders, would you ever use them under the eyes?
Yes! These are really forgiving. Imagine the Prep + Prime number Translucent Pulverization that nosotros sell. It's basically that type of formula with a little bit of that color added to it, and then they're very, very flexible and forgiving under the eyes.
And when you attach them to the skin or add together them to the pare, if they hit an oily spot around the side of your nose or on the side of your brow, they don't oxidize and turn weird. They stay really true to the color you see with your eyes.
And so to answer your question, aye, underneath the eyes is fine, equally long as y'all're not, you know, packing a ton of pulverization, because that'south going to make anyone look textured, and with one of our light, fluffy brushes like the 224, which is typically used for the contour of the eye.
If y'all use i of those with the Accommodate or even with the Illuminate, yeah, you could definitely, not only set your concealer, merely give it that actress little boost that knocks out that pesky dark circle that we're all trying to become rid of.
Thanks for all the great tips, Victor! My nighttime circles and I tin can't look to boogie downward with Adjust.
